- Lots of bug fixes and performance improvements
The good news is that, work on WordPress 2.6 has been going pretty smooth and thus, we may see an early release of 2.6. If that happens, look for it around July 7th or July14th. This is almost one month ahead of schedule according to the (previous) roadmap.
Also keep in mind that if 2.6 is released in July, the next major release (2.7) is scheduled for November 10th. If WordPress 2.7 is released this year, it will be the second year in a row where three major versions of the software were released within a 365 day period.
I think it will be interesting to see if the team ends up going with their (potentially revised) release cycle which was mentioned in a post by Ryan Boren back in January of this year after WordPress 2.4 was skipped. But, considering I have heard nothing in regards to the cycle being changed, it appears as though things will continue on as normal.
It looks very promising. I might install a copy on my test site shortly.
I can see a lot of potential for the post revision feature. I needed WordPress to have this feature recently for setting up a simple Wiki type site.
The drag and drop gallery concept sounds interesting too. There is a lot of potential in the built in WordPress gallery system too which we haven’t seen yet either. Some improved back end features could accelerate that development a lot.
My main request is for a proper user permissions system, hopefully they’ll include something like that in the future.
I installed the beta and is working well.
The post revision feature is very easy to use and will be a handy feature for a site I have which is edited on a regular basis by others. The ability to correct their mistakes with a click of a button is great. Previously I had to rifle through old database backups to track down the old versions of pages and posts to restore them.
It keeps getting better! Excited about the theme preview ability.
