WordPress Weekly Is Coming Back
The title pretty much says it all. The podcast that I used to produce on a weekly basis (WordPress Weekly) that covered all facets of WordPress will indeed be making a comeback. Ever since I ceased producing the show, I’ve received a number of emails, chat messages, and in overall conversation with individuals about the show, expressing their sadness for no longer producing new episodes. Apparently, the show wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. Many of you complimented the show and its format. The feedback also pointed out how helpful the show had been and how much they enjoyed listening to the show either on their trip to work or through their mid day workout. In fact, people who are only now discovering the podcast have told me how sad they were to reach the final episode. Here is an example:
Comment by on 20 July 2008 I was sorry to hear that this is your final episode. I had just started listening to it, and thoroughly enjoyed hearing the interview with Alex King. I listened to some of your other episodes while working (on WordPress of course) and found them to be excellent podcasts for any WordPress enthusiast. Hopefully you’ll be in a position to restart WordPress Weekly at some point. I’m sure plenty of your listeners will be pleased.
Well, I’ve taken your feedback to heart and I’ve spoken with a few people with regards to the show and I’ve decided that I will bring it back. The details are still sketchy but this is what I have planned. I’ve spoken to Mark Ghosh who is the owner of WeblogToolsCollection.com and he will allow me to publish the show as an addition to the content I produce for his site. This means that there will probably be two WordPress podcast episode announcements showing up in the dashboard between WordPress Weekly and The WordPress Podcast. Also, I’ve decided that if I am going to make WordPress Weekly structurally sound, I will need a co-host, preferably one with a developers point of view. Thankfully, the person who I have contacted with regards to the position has shown interest, but I will not know until mid or late September if the individual will be able to make it happen on a weekly basis.
The show will continue to be produced LIVE on Talkshoe just as it was before. All of the information such as the Show ID will also be the same. However, this is what will be changing.
In the past, the shows format has been a mixed bag. Sometimes, I would do the show alone. At other times, I would have a scheduled interview or I would bring on a few members of the community and open up the floor to those who have called in and discuss stories of the week. The new show format will consist of a host (myself) and a co-host leading the charge on every show. We will discuss the WordPress news of the week, mention recently released plugins as well as themes. The show will also be an hour long instead of three hours or more. However, you are still encouraged to call into the show to discuss a story we are talking about or give us a lead on a different story.
One thing that is not yet set in stone is the day and time each episode will be recorded. This is still up in the air and I won’t know this information until I can guarantee myself a co-host.
Are you excited that the show is coming back?
Glad to see you’ve had a change of heart. Looking forward to the return. Does that mean I can put my banner back?
Thank you, you know I was pleading
Wow, this is awesome. I definitely missed the show, and I’m glad to hear it’s coming back!
@Leland - Glad you’ll be a continued listener Leland. I really value your continued support. Hopefully you’ll be able to participate in a live recording some day.
@Latz - You are quite welcome.
@Len - Yep. Also, this means that I will eventually get to do that interview/show which focuses on the WordPress.org forums. I have not forgotten about that episode and I look forward to that one!
@Jeffro - I’d love to participate in a live recording some day. Honestly one of the reasons why I haven’t yet is I wasn’t sure how exactly to do it. I know there’s some number to call, or you can use Skype. Any clarification on this would be appreciated.
@Leland - Here you go:
If you want to call in to the show via telephone, Skype, etc., use your phone to call 724-444-7444 and follow the audio instructions. *Note* In one of the recent updates to Talkshoe, anonymous calling is now supported. This means you can call in and participate without the need to create a Talkshoe account. However, if you have a Talkshoe account, your registered name will show up within the Talkshoe client letting others know who is speaking.
You can also use SIP clients such as ProjectGizmo or X-Lite. For example, when I use X-Lite to dial in, I type in 123 @ 66.212.134.192 and then follow the audio directions.
Remember this information as it will be required when you want to dial into the show.
Talkcast Name: WordPress Weekly
Talkcast ID: 34224
Phone Number: 724-444-7444
And if you want to use X-Lite to call into the show for free, follow these directions I published not too long ago: http://www.jeffro2pt0.com/installing-and-configuring-x-lite
Hi Jeff,
I’m glad you’re going to do the show again. I’m looking forward to it.

Excellent Jeff. I think the time off to think things through mean you can start afresh with a pro perspetive, rather than a bit of fun.
I will look forward to it.
It’s great to hear you are picking this up again Jeffro

Great news, looking forward to the return !

Awesome Jeff! Can’t wait to see the show back on the air! I’d love to be back on the show as much as my schedule allows.
Fridays were a bit of an issue for me. Not sure what day you are leaning towards, but try to avoid Friday and Saturday.
Great news Jeffro! Mark Ghosh is making a good decision, and it will be great to have an official way to fill the gaps between Charles’ episodes. WPW wasn’t always the cleanest show but it was honest and I think it had a great spirit. I’m excited to see how the new version turns out.
I’d love to be your cohost but i know that there’s no way I could commit to showing up every week. If I could make a request, it would be cool if at least sometimes the episodes were recorded on saturday or sunday afternoon around 1 or 2 EST. Friday night is hard for me because i tend to already have plans to go out. I’d love to come on some time and fill in for a missing cohost
Good to see you are doing the show again Jeff. It will be interesting to see how the show will be now that there is a co-host.

Jeffro,
It’s certainly great to hear you’re bringing back WordPress Weekly. I know there are many out there who thoroughly enjoyed it. Your coverage of a wide variety of topics gives you an audience ranging from users to developers. I was first introduced to your program when I received countless emails and phone calls from friends and clients who wanted to inform me that you were discussing two of my plugins on your show. Since then I’ve looked into the other WordPress podcasts, and they’re amateur in comparison. This time, I would love to see it be on more of a regular basis.
It’s nice to hear your show will be presented on weblogtoolscollection.com, I’m sure this will assist greatly in spreading the word.

@Michael Torbert - Thank you for your continued support Michael. I will try to get things settled into a Weekly manner as that is the name of the show
Sweet! Another podcast to listen to on my busy Friday nights. Although, you may have just killed Patti’s aftershow on my show.
@Josh Budde - It is worthy of noting that even though the talkcast information on Talkshoe shows the date and time of when I used to produce the show, that is not the same day and time I will be doing the show in the future. That has yet to be decided.
@Andrew - Considering that I will be doing the show as a representative of WeblogToolsCollection.com, you better believe that I will be taking a more professional stance on how the show is conducted. I hope it adds even more quality to the show.
@Brad - Even though Talkshoe has me down for Friday nights, the new day and time is not yet set in stone. I have no idea what that will be until I get my co-host.
This is awesome, just finished listening the Alex King podcast. It just left me wanting more. AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME

It’s about damn time. This show needed to come back. Charles Stricklind seems to be having trouble keeping the other podcast on a schedule. That’s not a criticism; I love that podcast. I just need something with a regular schedule. Welcome back!
Patrick D.s last blog post..Hey You…
@Patrick D. - Hey Patrick. Thank you for your continued support. Keep your eyes tuned to the WordPress dashboard as you’re likely to see a post dedicated to the show and all of the information you’ll need to tune in in the next two weeks or so.
I know I’m a little late to the party here, but I just wanted to say that I’m glad the show is coming back.
I started listening after the Small Potato interview, and I was hooked since then. I’d offer up my services as co-host, but it’s not really my thing.
Looking forward to the show!
In Germany we havn’t got a WordPress Podcast. WordPress Weeky was/is my favourite english/american Podcast. Really great!
